We live in the Now because our life-spans are so short. We live on a planet which ‘changes’ in regular cycles. Sort of like our seasons only on a far longer time scale.
Because we live in the Now we all felt terribly let down (and giddily relieved) when the world didn’t end back in 2012. Well, the Mayan Calendar upon which so much hype was based, is exactly that – a calendar! Our world doesn’t implode on December 31st so looking back it was pretty stupid of people to think that the Mayan calendar would be any different. Of course most people just thought it was a load of codswallop long before the due date but for those that follow blindly without applying reason…well life can be a roller-coaster.
If your interested in the Mayan calendar there are plenty of good posts out there. Here is one from Token Rock that explains the calendar quite well.
If you look back at catastrophic events that have occurred historically all the major changes happen at specific times during the Earths precession thru the equinox this can suggest major astronomical influences in certain regions of space
Precession of the Equinox takes 26,000 years. The Mayan long-count calendar is 26,000 years.
The real question you should be asking – How could a civilization, 2 thousand+ years ago, record the long count calendar, or precession, so accurately?
I am a big fan of Randall Carlson. This Earth Changes and the Precession of the Equinox Source lecture is most excellent. Grab yourself a cuppa, get comfy and learn. He’s awesome!
